A Creak In The Cold

Whiskey-soaked vignettes birthed from the bars of Manchester. Heavy singer-songwriter vibes. Released via Pull Yourself Together (RIP) and recorded as Christopher Eatough.

Book of Want

Book of Want

Released November 13 2020.

A song cycle about dissatisfaction, desire and the endless craving for more. Our first album recorded with a fixed line-up. Modestly controversial.

tragicomics who?

lively folk tired country word pop

Tragicomics are an alt-country collective from the northwest of the UK, and self-professed purveyors of sharply crafted pop songs, sweeping melancholy and doomed romanticism. Fiercely independent and uncompromising, the band write and perform what the Quietus has described as ‘widescreen English Americana’ with a sincerity and complexity that sets them apart from many of their peers in the UK country scene.

In 2021 Tragicomics released their second album Book of Want, drawing favourable reviews and comparisons to My Morning Jacket, Wilco and Blitzen Trapper.

Over 2022-23 they released a series of limited edition singles which expanded their sound beyond the confines of alt-country, and featured artwork by award-winning painter Jude Wainwright.

In 2024 they released Farewells, a sparse acoustic record inspired by grief and change.

They have been a featured artist on BBC Introducing and have previously been chosen as UK Artist of the Month by the Vinyl District.

They have played several gigs around the UK including shows with Chris Stills, Sarah Shook & the Disarmers and The Lone Bellow. In late 2022 they were invited to film and record a live session at the prestigious Sacred Trinity Church in Salford. Later that year they hosted and headlined the sold-out event ‘Crossing the County Line’, the first in a series of alt-country showcases in the heart of Manchester.

Tragicomics are Christopher Eatough (vocals, guitar), Toby Cryne (guitar), Matt O’Brien (bass), Laura Morley (violin, keys) and Jay Fearon (drums).
